The necropolis of Giubiasco (Canton of Ticino)

The necropolis of Giubiasco ranks among the most significant archaeological sites in the region of the southern Alps. The archaeological material excavated in the early 20th century and the corresponding documentation of the dig are held by the Swiss National Museum. The burial site, which in parts had been excavated in a non-scientific manner, was later comprehensively and systematically researched over a number of years, and then published.

Volume I contains the correspondence regarding the original excavations, offers hitherto unpublished excavation plans, and reconstructs the original grave inventories. Volume II shows the finds of the Late La Tène and Roman periods. Volume III is dedicated to the finds dating back to the late Bronze Age, the early Iron Age as well as the early and intermediate La Tène periods. The fourth and last volume will contain an analysis of the chronological breakdown, spatial distribution, and grave goods practices of the populace buried in Giubiasco.
