Focus

Deep Fakes

Art and Its Double

| accessibility.time_to

with Sarah Kenderdine, Patrick Michel, Michel Al Maqdissi, Andrea Balbo, Benno Widmer, Emma Sebastiani, Jenny Maggi and Muriel Siki

The starting point for this focus event is the Deep Fakes: Art and Its Double exhibition at the EPFL Pavilions in Lausanne.

The exhibition poses crucial questions about the potency of digital replicas to absorb audiences in enduring emotional encounters with universal art treasures.

At the centre of the discussion is the Temple of Baalshamin in Syria, which was destroyed by the Islamic State during the war. It was excavated and researched in the 1950s by the Swiss archaeologist Paul Collart. At the event, experts will talk about the meaning of virtual and real reconstructions and their significance for the people of Syria.

Entrance is free and a reservation is mandatory.

The event is being held by University of LausanneEPFL Lausanne and the Zurich Center for the Study of the Ancient World
