Les religieuses du Moyen Âge étaient bien plus que des femmes vivant dans l’ascétisme, pour qui seul existait le monde protégé par l’enceinte du couvent. Le cloître offrait aux femmes des possibilités qu’elles n’avaient guère ailleurs: une instruction poussée, la sécurité existentielle, l’opportunité de se soustraire aux normes familiales. À partir de différentes personnalités, l’exposition montre à quel point les religieuses menaient des vies variées.
