Democratic Constitutions – Yesterday’s origins and today’s challenges

| accessibility.time_to

avec Richard Lui, Alan Cassidy et Sanija Ameti

Switzerland has had a democratic constitution since 1848. This primary piece of legislation is more than just a dignified document. It affects us all and is part of our daily lives. On the day of its 175th birthday, we want to discuss today's challenges for democracies and the role that democratic constitutions can play. The historical kinship between the US and the Swiss Constitution will be addressed, as well as the factors that endanger democracy today and whether countries with an old democratic tradition can contribute to the safeguard of democratic values and fundamental rights in constitutions.

Moderated by Sanija Ameti, teaching assistant at University of Bern with a law degree

In partnership with the U. S. Embassy and Operation Libero

The event will take place in English.
